Fall Fest (baby sister style)

No pony rides or games or moonwalks or cookies for Little Miss Elizabeth. She loved the pizza and music, though!

Little Walker

Thanks to mama's buying coop, Elizabeth scored this beautiful woodpecker walker. It was originally ordered to be a Christmas or birthday present for Elizabeth, but I think she'll be walking on her own by then so I put it together for her yesterday.

Standing up

Just a few seconds at a time, but the girl can balance on her own now. (She is sucking on a tie from my shirt, but I don't think she is using it for balance.)
Caroline took this sweet pic of au natural mama and baby.

She crawls!

Another milestone -- one week shy of eight months. Go Elizabeth!

Close enough to crawling to cause trouble

She's mobile. That is for sure. And mobile babies get into things they shouldn't, like the cats' scratcher pad that is full of tasty cardboard and cat hair. Poor neglected baby, just crawling around eating whatever she can find while mommy gets dressed.

All she wants to do is, all she wants to do is STAND

She's been pulling herself up, with quite a bit of work, for a few weeks now. This past week, though, she gotten much better and much faster at it. I went in to get her from her nap (she naps in the girls' bedroom in the pack and play bassinet) and she was standing up playing with the froggie humidier that is on the nightstand between the bassinet and Caroline's bed.

Staycation 2009

Elizabeth at Kerby Lane
Elizabeth at Shady Grove

As I sat in the beach-entry pool at Rock 'n' River, nursing Elizabeth, I composed a sort of Dr. Seuess-like poem in my head. Consider it a memory of Elizabeth's staycation.
I have nursed on a boat. I have nursed in a cave.
I have nursed in a pool. I have nursed on a train.
I have nursed in a car. I have nursed near and far.

Are Barbie legs BPA-free?
So cute with her sprout and her wool shorties.
This backseat shot by her big sister shows what her hair looks like when the band comes out of her sprout.

Loves the water!

Elizabeth played at the splash park yesterday. She, of course, wanted to drink the water as it shot out. This girl loves her baths. I usually just get in the tub with her. The other day, I got in first and washed my hair, then asked John to bring her to me. As soon as he walked in the bathroom with her, she got so excited waving her arms. He walked back into the bedroom to undress her and she got MAD!

She does not want to sit and play anymore

I have to forcefully bend her in half to get her to sit on the floor now. And she has no fear, letting go with both hands (and falling, of course!)

Lapsit Storytime

Though she has been attending preschool storytime since she was a week old, Elizabeth went to her first baby lapsit storytime today. She loved the variety of toys, watching the other babies, and tasting the frog.

She *likes* food!

Yeah, I know you're on your way to take my crunchy-mama badge away since I'm feeding her jarred food here. But I didn't want to make my own if she was going to refuse to open her mouth and scream at me the whole attempt, like her older sister did. She had peas today. Pureed organic peas from a jar. And she'd open her mouth as the spoon came towards her. Really, I am amazed at how different two kids (with the same genes and same environment) can be! (Note: Caroline's lips are yellow because of birthday party goody-bag makeup, not because of pureed peas.)

Doing her part for science

Elizabeth participated today in the same study (with a new researcher) that Caroline did at six, twelve, and eighteen months. She cooed at all the faces as they came on the screen. I don't know that she was judging appearance as much as wanting one of them to talk to her or smile back at her.

Elizabeth meets Nanny Jenkins

Elizabeth and Nanny
The momma and the girls
During our vacation, Elizabeth just hung out -- no boatriding or fishing for her as I did not have an infant life jacket. She still had fun, though.
