Almost One Updates

She walks a few steps easily now, usually lunging from one spot or person to another. I don't count so much now, but I'd say she takes ten or so steps usually before falling or resorting to a crawl.

She knows what is what -- she uses a brush to "brush" her hair. She tries to put on her shoes and clothes (though I have seen her try to pull pants over her head). Anything resembling a necklace, she tries to put over her head.

She can throw a tantrum! Back arching, crying, and cussing. Her trigger seems to be anytime control is taken from her.

She loves water and drinks from a sippy cup usually. I am trying to move her away from the sippy now and on to cups with straws. She really likes to drink from our cups with help, but she's messy.

She eats and loves food, but boy, is she messy!

Her sister can make her laugh! Elizabeth loves for Caroline to be silly.

The last week of Advent: Caroline blows out the candles each night. Elizabeth attacks the nativity shepherds. (Mama is behind on laundry.)

'tis the Season

Again, the differences when you are the second child abound. When I decorated cookies Caroline's first Christmas, she played with cookie cutters. Elizabeth got to have the actual cookie. :-)

Elizabeth got to spin under the Zilker Tree,

see the lights,
and jam to some live music. (She also tried several times to charm that sweet boy in the background out of some kettle corn. He was so nice to her.)

(almost) Christmas

We celebrated Christmas with the Bindels this weekend. Even though there were six adorable girls in matching outfits, I do not have a picture of them because one eleven-month-old was totally uncooperative. But she sure had fun when she wanted to!

Nutcracker 2009

(Elizabeth just watched the introductory routines. She and daddy spent the rest of the show in the lobby.)

The doctor originally prescribed three days of breathing treaments, three times a day. After the first night's treatment, Elizabeth went to bed and slept about an hour. Then she was awake and WIRED! She was awake for almost seven hours -- playing and laughing, but screaming if we tried to get her to sleep. I called the doctor first thing this morning and he said if she wasn't wheezing at bedtime to cut out that treatment and just do two a day. That's what we've done. today..so far, so good (she's asleep for now.) She does not enjoy the treatments, but this afternoon's went better with John holding her and the mask and me being silly and entertaining her. We're almost done -- just two more treatments tomorrow and as long as her fever stays away (which is has today!), then she'll wean off of the treatments Monday and Tuesday.

Poor baby girl. Elizabeth had rough nights Monday and Tuesday earlier this week -- she seemed gassy, waking screaming and grunting like she was trying to pass gas. Early Wednesday morning, the fever came -- 102+, so I took her to the doctor. Our regular doctor was out, so she saw a fill-in who pronounced it a cold and said to call back if the fever wasn't gone by Friday. This morning, still 102, so we went back. Dr. Millar thinks the tummy troubles could indicate a UTI, but the cough concerned him, too, not to mention three days of 102 temps. Elizabeth is on her first ever round of antibiotics (which would knock out either a respiratory infection or a urinary tract infection) and we are now the proud owners of a nebulizer and will be giving Elizabeth breathing treatments this weekend. Baby girl is spending lots of time in my lap or in the sling. She's also getting her bottom molars in the midst of all this. It is hard being a baby!

Here Comes Santa Claus

With two kids in one picture, it's a compromise on finding one where they are both not unhappy and are both looking at the camera. What you end up with is a picture that neither looks great in.
